To sharpen your wood carving tools, you will need a strap and compound for the blades. For safety you will also need a thumb protector that is made of leather. This is worn on the hand that carves and will protect you from cuts. These items will run in the range from ten to twenty dollars. The safety equipment is highly advised, and will be needed.
